Hey there! I know I’ve been skimping on the outfit posts this week but things have been a it busy. This week I had a meeting in DC, went to see Toni Braxton perform in Baltimore and helped my little sister decorate her locker (she starts 6th grade Monday). All that, plus the busyness of my regular workday, has me so tired. But thankfully today I will have a moment for myself when I go to the hair salon.
That being said, today’s post will be the usual Looks of the Week. My 1st pick is one of my favorite Hollywood couples, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union. They are such a nice looking couple and I love their style(s). For this event, they both kept it casual. Dwyane wore a cream/white light-weight sweater and a pair of jeans. Gabrielle decided to mix and match a bit with her black and white flowy top and Aztec-ish mini shorts. I’m not a fan of her shoe choice but for her, it works.
I love “styling” my husband and my Dad so when I saw Dwyane’s look, I immediately thought this was a perfect look for them both! In my look, I paired a pair of Kohl’s jeans with an American Eagle sweater. I think my favorite thing about this look has to be the Steve Madden sneakers. The bracelet is a fashionable and masculine addition, don’t you think?
For Gabrielle’s recreated look I went with a different print for the shorts, as well as a sleeveless, plain top. I think I like the way these pieces fit together better. Reluctantly, I found a pair of H&M booties to add to the ensemble. 😉 When I put it all together, it wasn’t that bad. Like I said, Gabrielle carried this look well but if I had to wear something similar, this is what I’d go for. What about you?The next look features Mrs. Lala Anthony. She always gets it right when it comes to dresses. I love how she is not afraid of color and the way she rocks the fliest shoes! I also like her casual style; it’s very tomoby-chic! Back in April, Lala wore this $259 floral dress from, My-Wardrobe. This dress is BAD! Her $595 green suede pumps are by Manolo Blahnik (similar pair HERE).
I guess everyone wanted to dress like Lala because the item is currently out of stock, lol. However, I have 2 choices below that are still just as fabulous! Both dress options below are under $100 and both pair of shoes are less than $50! The 1st choice is the closets to Lala’s dress and it’s just $90! I’m loving the loud print and colors; very bold and fashion-forward. The 2nd dress is more toned down and versatile. This dress still has the floral effect, but it’s a bit more practical for the “everyday fashionista.” Which do you prefer?
Happy Sunday, friends! I usually don’t post on Sundays, but I have some great news about an upcoming event. On August 31st, the Bloggers Like Me organization is hosting a its first event, right here in the DMV. There will be simultaneous events happening in LA, GA and NY, so, if you’re in one of those areas, feel free to join us!
As a BLM Girl I’ve been able to forge wonderful relationships, both working and personal, and I’ve actually been able to meet quite a few new bloggers. It’s such a blessing to be a part of this group—I literally feel like I have 1,000(+) “digital sisters”! 🙂
When Leslie, the founder of the group, asked Karen and me to host the DMV BLM event, I was honored and accepted right away. This event is going to be packed with networking, a branding presentation, fun games, swag bags, and MORE! Even if you aren’t apart of BLM, you can STILL attend. Also, if you’re thinking about starting a blog, but don’t know where to start, this event is a GREAT way to kick start your blogging career.
Well, I hope to see you all there!! Feel free to contact me with any questions. Take care and be blessed!
P.S. Below are the links to the DMV event, as well LA, ATL, and NY. Feel free to register there if you live in one of those areas!

Hey there! I’m coming down from a super relaxed and enjoyable weekend. The rest, relaxation, and family time was well needed. I hope you all were able to enjoy the holiday weekend!
Today’s look is surprisingly not thrifted, lol. I purchased this dress over the weekend at Macy’s. I couldn’t wait to wear it so, I threw it on to run some errands early Saturday morning. It reminds me of a cute dress from the 70’s. I just love the colors and the print. Don’t you?
Well, enjoy the pics and be sure to stop back Wednesday. Take care and be blessed. XO!
Good morning, friends!
I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve written a post. Well, I’ve been on a brief blog break for a few weeks. Life has been a bit all over the place for me right now so I’ve decided to take a step back and gather myself. Nothing bad has happened, I just believe that sometimes in life you need a break and you need to regroup. So, that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been devoting my time to other aspects of my life that will in the end, benefit my blog and business a great deal in the future.
In the meantime, I plan to have some WONDERFUL guest bloggers fill in for me throughout the month of March. I’m super excited for what they have to share with you. Trust me, you’ll love them just as much as I do. 🙂 So starting next week, the guest bloggers will commence.
You can always keep up with me through Facebook, Twitter & Insragram. (click the names for the links). So I hope you all have been well and be sure to check back next week for a brand new post! Take care and as always, be blessed…
Welcome to 2013, my friends! With this being my 1st post of the New Year, I wanted to share some exciting news with you. I’ve finally opened my shop, nic’s picks, over on Etsy (HERE)!
For awhile, I’ve been selling plus size (vintage) clothing and other items via the blog and other social media but I’ve decided to move over to Etsy. I hope you all check it out when you get the chance. I am not done adding items, but for now there are some great options so head over and shop! I plan to add new items often so be on the look out.
I’d like to thank everyone who has supported nic’s picks over the past few months. I’m so blessed and thankful for you all! One of my goals this year is to continue to serve my customers and clients with the most unique and affordable items! I’m on a mission to provide a variety of choices for REAL women, sizes 12-22. So come along for the ride…you won’t be sorry 😉
With that being said, check out a few of my favorite items below! You can see all items HERE. Be blessed & happy shopping!!
So a few Sundays ago, the American Music Awards came on and to be honest, I was only able to watch snippets of it. I was watching the RAVENS game that night! I eventually watched the whole show and while I wasn’t that impressed with the performances, I was impressed with some of the Red Carpet looks. I posted some looks on my Facebook page but I want to just give a quick look at my Top 3 picks, along with my Polyvore inspired looks for less.
My #3 looks is Christina Aguilera. She looked absolutely LOVELY in purple. Her makeup was so natural and pretty. I really liked that fact that she didn’t go overboard with the makeup. She’s such a pretty girl and when she piles on the makeup, it doesn’t do much for her.
For my recreated look, I went with a one shoulder lavender dress and silver accessories and shoes. The whole look is less than $120! What a perfect look for any special occasion. Quick Style Tip: Empire waist dresses do wonders for those of us ladies who have curves. So does jersey material. Everything falls right in place 😉
The next look is my #2 pick, Brandy. Aside from being my favorite female artist, she is also been one to watch on the style scene lately. Her face last night was FLAWLESS and her hair was on point! As a fan of black and gold I immediately fell in love with this look. The different lengths of the dress add drama and while the shoes aren’t my favorite choice for the outfit, I do think their fly! I just wish she would’ve worn something more strappy and pretty.
Of course I decided to recreate Brandy’s look for less with a twist. I went with a skirt, a peplum top and gold sparkle booties. It’s very chic and glam; a perfect look just about any special occasion, just like the last look. I LOVE the booties but I’m a bit ify if I like them with the outfit. Mmmm, what do you think? I see a lot of celebs and TV personalities wearing booties with dresses and skirts these days. So in keeping with the trend, I added them to my look. My Brandy look for less is just under $200. The $40 ring made the look a bit more expensive than I’d like. Quick Style Tip: Find your statement pieces like rings, earrings, and even purses at your local thrift store. This is an almost sure way to find one of a kind pieces.
My final look was my FAVORITE look of the night. Can you guess? If you said Taylor Swift, you’re right! She looks so young and fresh in this look. I’m used to seeing Taylor in long gowns and a red lip. I was SO happy that she stepped it up and put a little sexy in her step 😉 She’s a beautiful young lady and if she keeps dressing like this, she just may become my new Red Carpet Crush!
I kept the nude while recreating my Polyvore look, but I went for a dress that in my opinion would definitely flatter a curvy girl like me! The dress is super romantic and sexy and the accessories are perfect! Not too much because the neckline of the dress is already adorned with crystals. Quick Style Tip: When you’re dress has a fancy or embellished neckline, go easy on the accessories. Less is always more in that instance. The best thing about this look? It’s just a little over $150!
So tell me, what was YOUR favorite look at the AMA’s? Which Polyvore creation is YOUR favorite? Let me know!
Have a wonderful weekend and be blessed!
So with Christmas literally right around the corner, I’ve already gotten a start on my shopping. I always tend to give gifts based on the persons personality and I’m always looking for cute ways to present the gift too.
I’ve complied two Polyvore sets below to help you all come up with some cute and inexpensive gift ideas. i love the nail polish and iPhone cover idea for someone who is super girly! Instead of wrapping or boxing the items individually, I’d suggest putting the polish and iPhone case in a pretty clutch so when they open the clutch, the gifts keep coming!
1. Nars Nail Polish (Click HERE for the link)
2. Ann Klein Watch (Click HERE for the link)
3. DVF iPhone case (Click HERE for the link)
4. American Apparel Sunnies (Similar Pair, HERE)
5. Kardashian collection Wallet (Click HERE for the link)
When it comes to the gentleman/men in your life, you can never go wrong with smell goods or something to hold their many gadgets! I know my fiancee is always looking for something to put his toiletries in. When he travels home (to DE) I hate to see him throw his toothbrush and deodorant in a ziplock bag, lol! So if the man in your life is like mine, the $10 travel bag from Target (pictured below) is PERFECT! And how great would it be if you gifted him the travel bag already stuffed with some toiletries or cologne?!?! I love it, lol!
1. Dress Top Valet (Click HERE for the link)
2. Puma Sneakers (Click HERE for the link)
3. Men’s Hat; This hat comes in SEVERAL colors!!!
4. Bath & Body Works Cologne (Click HERE for link)
5. Men’s Travel Bag (Click HERE for the link)
So which, if any, under $50 gift ideas do you like? What are some of your Christmas gift ideas? Let me know!
Talk to you soon & be blessed!
Guess what? I’m wearing florals again!! I’ve had the sweater for a while now and what I love most about this particular sweater is that its light enough to wear during any season. On this day, I decided to pair the sweater with my hunter green jeans and leopard flats. I’ve quickly learned that a printed shoe can go with pretty much any look. Quick Style Tip: When in doubt, wear leopard 😉
Before purchasing these jeans, I was a bit hesitant about wearing colorful denim. I’d seen several bloggers wear them but I wasn’t sure if that trend was for me. Mmmm, sounds like my Comfort Zone post, huh? LOl…Well let me tell you when I tried these on, I didn’t want to take them off! Here’s yet another example of a successful step outside of my style comfort zone. I love these jeans!
The day I purchased these, I also got a fuchsia pair! Quick style tip: When you find something that fits and that flatters you, but them/or it in every color! My mother used to tell me that all the time and I never listened. How cheesy to buy the same shirt in all colors? Cheesy no. Genius, yes! It’s a money saver and a time saver when figuring out outfits. To complete my new addiction for colored denim I’d like to own a pair in electric blue and maybe even some shade of orange.
Are you into colored denim? What’s you favorite color? Let me know! Until next time, be good & be blessed!
